The first step is right click on the file and press, then; Select Give access to > Specific people. Do as below.

The second step is; selecting a file and selecting the Share tab at the top of File Explorer. Then select Specific People in the Share With section.

Select the user with whom you will share the file in this section. Select Everyone to allow one or all network users on the network to access the file you selected. In this section, if you select multiple files, you can share them all in the same way. You can also transfer files between laptops with folder shares. Also, when you share a folder, all the files it contains are also shared.

Stop sharing files or folders over the network

Follow the steps below to stop sharing files or folders on file explorer. Right-click the file or folder and select Give access to > Remove access.

After selecting the file or folder, select the Share tab at the top of File Explorer, and then select Remove access in the Share With section.

To see which files or folders you have shared over the network, you should open File Explorer and type \\localhost in the address bar. When you go to this address, you will see all the files you have shared here.

  • In the Add person and group section, write the e-mail address of the person you want to share the file with and complete.
  • Or select Copy Link on the screen that opens and share this link with your contacts. Select Anyone with the link in the options and complete. This means that anyone with the link can access the file.
  • You can edit the authorizations of the people you share with the options on the same screen. In this way, you can give viewing, commenting, or editing permissions to the user you want.

Dropbox File Sharing

When you share files with Dropbox, the recipient receives an email with a link to the file. The recipient must have a Dropbox account to access the shared file in the link. If the recipient does not have a Dropbox account, you must share the file with the view-only link. With Dropbox file transfer, you can authorize files for users’ laptops.

  • First sign in to your Dropbox account. If you do not have an account, open a new account and upload the file to your Dropbox account.
  • Click on the share icon by hovering over the file you want to share.
  • Enter the e-mail information of the person you will share the file with. You can add more than one person’s e-mail.
  • Select the permissions of the users on the file.
  • Click the Share file button.

After following these steps, an e-mail is sent to the people you shared the file with. This e-mail contains a link to the file or folder you shared.

Microsoft OneDrive File Sharing

Microsoft OneDrive is an online file storage and sharing service from Microsoft. Thanks to OneDrive, you can share your file from any computer. You can see who a file has been shared within your OneDrive account. You can also stop the transfer of files between the two laptops at any time.

  • Sign in to your Microsoft OneDrive account.
  • Select the files you want to share and then select share.
  • Specify the desired permissions to manage permissions on the file.
  • Select Get link and copy.

File Sharing with USB Memory or External Hard Drive

You can use a USB drive or external hard drive or optical drive to transfer files and settings between two laptops. Make sure there is enough space on the drive to complete the transfer. This avoids duplication of transfers.

If you are using a USB stick or an external hard drive, try to use a drive that has enough storage space for the entire transfer process. Copy as many files as possible if devices do not have enough storage space for a full transfer. Repeat the process until you have transferred all the files and settings.
